After a couple of weeks off the competition course, the Hillsdale College women's cross country team returned to action Friday afternoon at the Notre Dame Invitational.
The team finished in eighth place in the Gold Division race, picking up 278 points.
The Chargers placed three runners between 39th and 54th place in their division, and were led by fast-improving sophomore Emily Oren, who took 39th with a time of 18:35.8. Not far behind her was freshman Julia Bos (pictured) who took 42nd overall in 18:39.7.
Sophomore Kristina Galat was Hillsdale's No. 3 runner at the meet, getting a time of 18:47.9 in the race.
"We didn't perform quite like we would have liked today," said coach Andrew Towne. "We were a little too conservative at the start of the race, and that cost us some positioning. But, we did battle well throughout the rest of the race, which is a good sign.
"We'll split up next week, and see if we can learn from the mistakes we made this week. We'll be ready to go."
Some members of the team will run in familiar territory next weekend when Hillsdale College hosts the Michigan Intercollegiates at Hayden Park.
