4x400 Relay Team Nears School Record at GVSU Big Meet

The Women's Track team travelled back to Allendale to compete in the Grand Valley State University Big Meet this weekend. The women competed in the meet with 1,663 athletes and posted personal records and NCAA provisional marks.

On Friday, the Chargers started the weekend with provisional marks. Freshman Alexandra Whitford took eighth in the pole vault with a 3.60 meter vault, meeting the mark. In the 400 meter dash, freshman Allison Duber met the mark with at time of 57.12 and took twelfth. Junior Amy Kerst ran the 800 meter with a time of 2:15.19, meeting the mark. In the mile, both sophomores Emily Oren and Kristina Galat reached the provisional time with 4:51.37 and 4:55.86 respectively. Galat's time was a personal best.

On Saturday, the team continued to post top performances. The 4x400 meter relay team continued their success with a second place finish. The team (So. Corinne Zehner, Fr. Allison Duber, Fr. Jessica Hurley, So. Danielle Gagne) met a provisional time with their time of 3:51.72. This time was only 0.12 seconds behind the school record in the event.

The Distance Medley team (Fr. Kathryn Royer, Jr. Amy Kerst, So. Emily Guy, So. Emily Oren) also met a provisional mark with their time of 11:55.77. They took sixth with this time.

Freshman Sarah Benson took seventh in the long jump, reaching 5.14 meters. She also ran the 200 meter dash in 26.27 seconds. Freshman Madison Estell leapt 11.04 meters in the triple jump to take seventh in the event. Freshman Molly Oren took seventh in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:26.47.

In the 800 meter run, sophomore Shena Albaugh posted a PR of 2:16.90 to take eleventh. Senior Grace Leutheuser met her first provisional mark in the weight throw. She had a PR throw of 16.04 meters. In the 60 meter hurdles, Zehner took thirteenth with a time of 9:42. Sophomore Emily Guy took fifteenth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.37. Sophomore Fancesca Krohn finished after with a time of 1:00.51.

The Chargers will host the Hillsdale Tune Up on Feb. 22 to continue the season.
