Across all age ranges, Hillsdale College women's track athletes contributed to the team's continued success as they hosted the Wide Track Classic this weekend at the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center.
Six freshmen reached the top 10 in their events. Alexandra Whitford (pictured) hit an NCAA provisional mark in the pole vault, taking third place with a 3.65 meter vault. Madison Estell took fourth in the triple jump, leaping 10.73 meters. In the 400 meter dash championship, Allison Duber legged out a third place finish to meet a provisional time with a 57.33 finish. Julia Bos took ninth in the 3000 meter run with her time of 10:46.41.
Sarah Benson reached 5.08 meters in the long jump to take 10th. Jordan Ahlers took 10th in the indoor pentathalon, consisting of the 60 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, and 800 meter run.
Another six sophomores matched the freshmen's successes. Corinne Zehner took sixth in the 60 meter hurdles. She broke the Hillsdale College record of 9.02 that was set in 2009 by Kathryn Hurst. Zehner also took ninth in the 400 meter championship with a time of 58.94.Emily Oren reached a provisional time with a time of 2:16.79 in the 800 meter run championship. She took fourth with this time. In the 5000 meter run championship, Kristina Galat took third while reaching a provisional mark with her time of 17:45.03. In the mile run championship, Shena Albaugh finished with a time of 5:16.41to take seventh. Emily Guy took seventh in the 400 meter dash, crossing with a time of 1:00.66.
In the distance medley championship, both teams reached the top ten. Team "A" (Fr. Kathryn Royer, Jr. Amy Kerst, Fr. Jessica Hurley, E. Oren) took sixth with a time of 12:07.49, a provisional qualifying time. Team "B" (Fr. Molly Oren, Fr. Melissa Bott, So. Francesca, and Krohn, So. Kathryn Van Egmond) took eighth with their time of 12:48.40. In the 4x400 meter relay championship, the team, consisting of Zehner, Duber, Hurley, and So. Danielle Gagne, took fifth with their time of 3:59.66.
The team will return to Allendale next week to continue their season at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet Feb. 14-15.
