Consider the junior season of Charger women's tennis player Katie Bell off to a strong start.
Bell had a successful outing in her fall debut at last weekend's ITA Regionals. As a result, she was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office Tuesday evening.
Bell teamed up with senior Corinne Prost to win the A Doubles Consolation Draw at the regional event, hosted by Grand Valley State University. After a first-round loss to Indianaplos, Bell and Prost earned wins over Marysville, Lewis and Walsh.
Individually, Bell also performed well, going 2-2, losing to Indianapolis in a third-set tiebreaker. She advanced through the draw with wins over Davenport and Missouri-St. Louis.
