Swimmers Win Home Opener


On Saturday, October 6, Hillsdale College hosted their first meet of the season against Davenport College. The meet was a successful win for the Chargers 126-92.

Junior Catherine Voisin had a strong first place in the 100 butterfly (1:00.90) while freshman Anna Clark made her college debut with a very close second place in the 100 fly (1:00.92).

Freshman Madeline Breay had a breakout 1000 with first place (11:17.78) and senior Grace Houghton was second (11:27.43).

Chargers went 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke with senior Anika Ellingson leading the way (1:07.52) and Breay second (1:10.55).

Senior Suzanne DeTar led the sprinters with a first place in the 50 freestyle (25.60), and junior Victoria Addis took third (25.99). Freshman sprinter, Taylor Boyle, took second in the 100 freestyle (57.00) and Breay took third (57.50).

Sophomore Katherine Heeres took first in the 100 backstroke (1:00.28), and junior Bailey Bickerstaff took a close third (1:01.87).

Heeres finished second in the 200 IM (2:16.30), and Ellingson finished third (2:18.78).

Sophomore Hannah Wilkens had a strong second place in the 500 freestyle (5:30.32), and freshman Stefanie Walker made her debut with a close third place (5:31.73).

The Charger's "A" 200-medley relay of Heeres, Ellingson, Voisin, and DeTar finished first (1:50.76), and the "A" 200-freestyle relay of Boyle, Vita, Rao, and DeTar finished in a very close second (1:42.13).
