Charger Men Sweep Top 3 Spots in Win Over SVSU

The trio of Caleb Gatchell, Joseph Newcomb and Anthony Wondaal were all looking at each other with varying degrees of smiles as they crossed the finish line together, all within .10 seconds of one another, in their 2015 debut performances Friday afternoon.

In the end, it was Gatchell who won the race on the 5K course with a time of 17:20.69. The trio led the way as Hillsdale defeated Saginaw Valley State 19-36 in a dual meet at Hayden Park.

Newcomb, this year's team captain, was the runner-up in the race with a time of 17:20.70. Nine-tenths of a second behind Newcomb was Wondaal, who took third place, helping the Chargers to a sweep of the top three spots.

The Charger trio finished 13 seconds ahead of the top Cardinal runner in the meet.

Freshman Isaac Harris made his Charger debut by placing sixth overall with a time of 17:35.85. The team's final scorer was sophomore Nathan Jones, who ran the course in 17:48.87.
