Entering its second season competing in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, the Hillsdale College men's golf team is expected to be among the contenders in the 2019 season according to conference coaches.
The Chargers were picked third in this year's preseaosn coach's poll, released Thursday afternoon. Hillsdale received three first-place votes and had 106 total poll points.
No clear favorite emerged in this year's poll, with three different teams - Findlay, Trevecca Nazarene and Hillsdale - all receiving between three and four first-place votes apiece. The Oilers were the favorite, getting 112 poll points. Thr Trojans came in just one poll pont ahead of the Chargers, while G-MAC newcomer Tiffin received the other remaining first-place vote and was picked fourth in the poll.
Hillsdale did emerge victorious in the G-MAC Fall Invite back in September. What's interesting is the top four teams listed in this preseason coach's poll match the top four finishers at the fall invite, but the order is scrambled with the exception of fourth-place Tiffin.
Among the Chargers' top three players at the fall invite, two are battle-tested veterans, Liam Purslowe and Andrew Grayson. Freshman Logan Anuszkiewicz is off to a strong start in his collegiate career, and figures to be among the Chargers' most consistent players as the championship season gets underway. Fellow freshman Josh Davenport has also turned in some good rounds early in his Hillsdale career.
The Chargers get the spring season underway in Florida next week.
