Hillsdale College Football Program Announces Freshman Class of 2014

Hillsdale College Football Program Announces Freshman Class of 2014

The Hillsdale College football program is pleased to present its freshman class for 2014. A total of 19 players committed to playing for the Chargers starting next fall.

Twelve of the initial 19 hail from the state of Michigan, with six different states represented by this incoming freshman class. Players from as far away as Houston, Texas and Sedalia, Colorado are coming to play football for Hillsdale College next fall.

Chargers head coach Keith Otterbein said this was a well-rounded class, one that addresses depth at almost every position on the field.

"Each year, our staff meets the challenge of going out and recruiting kids who fit the profile of what we want in a Hillsdale College football player," Otterbein said. "We have high standards here, both on the field and in the classroom, and this class measures up to that. I give our coaching staff a lot of credit for identifying these young men that will be a big part of our campus and program in the future."

Eight different positions are represented among the initial group of 19 players, giving this class good balance. There are four linebackers and wide receivers to lead the group, followed by three defensive backs, two defensive linemen, and one quarterback, H-back and tailback.

How this class produces on the field will be revealed in the future. However, the class will enter Hillsdale with a very impressive academic pedigree. This class has an average high school grade point average of 3.82, with six of them carrying an overall GPA of 4.0 or higher in high school. The class' average ACT score is 28, and five members of the class have earned an ACT score of 30 or better.

The 2014 Charger football season kicks off Saturday, Sept. 6 at the University of Findlay.
