The women's track team represented the Hillsdale Chargers with exceptional performances at the Grand Valley State University Five-Way Meet today in Allendale, Mi. The team competed against Lincoln University (Mo.), Grand Valley State University, Lewis University, and St. Joseph's College (In.).

In a unique meet format for the regular season, team points were kept among the five squads present in Allendale. The Chargers finished third with 78 points at the meet.

Chargers recorded top results in the Field events. Senior Amber Mueller took second in the shot put, followed closely by junior Heather Lantis who took third. Mueller threw 11.82 meters and Lantis threw 11.76 meters. In the weight throw, Grace Leutheuser finished third with a 15.55 meter throw. Dana Newell took the next slot with a 14.90 meter throw.

Freshman Alexandra Whitford recorded a NCAA provisional mark in the pole vault, reaching 3.69 meters. She took third with that mark. Freshman high jumper Dana Newell took fourth in that event with a 1.56 leap. Freshman Madison Estell took fourth in the triple jump with a 10.64 meter mark. Freshman Jordan Ahlers took sixth in the same event with a jump of 10.03 meters.

On the track, Chargers legged out several impressive performances. Going the distance, Sophomores Kristina Galat and Emily Oren took first and second respectively in the 3000 meter run. Finishing about five ten-thousandths of a second apart, Galat crossed the tape in 9:49.84 and Oren in 9:49.89. Freshman Allison Duber continued her success with a third place finish in the 400 meter dash, finishing in 57.30. The 4x400 meter relay team (So. Corinne Zehner, Duber, Fr. Jessica Hurley, So. Danielle Gagne) took fifth with a time of 4:00.96.

Zehner in particular, had a very busy day, competing in four hotly contested events, with the 400 meter dash and 60 meter dash finals happening almost on top of one another.

Top-10 finishes were also met by many Charger athletes. Gagne finished eighth in the 200 meter dash, finishing with at time of 26.13. Freshman Sarah Benson finished in 26.38 in the same event. Junior Shena Albaugh took eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:18.03. Junior Amy Kerst ran a 5:03.43 mile to take eighth. Kathryn Royer finished in 5:08.62 in the same event.

The Chargers will continue their season Feb. 7-8 at home, competing in the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic.
