April 21, 2013 - Members of the Charger women's track team ventured far from home, in some cases, a weekend before competing at home in front of friends and family.
Hillsdale College split its team up between the large and prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in California, and the EMU Twilight Classic in Ypsilanti.
Some of Hillsdale's top competitors, like the 400 and 1600 relay teams, senior Kayla Caldwell and freshman Emily Oren, ran against tough competition in California throughout the weekend. The two relays teams were made up of the same runners: Corinne Zenher, Erin Benjamin, Becky Caywood and Danielle Gagne, and ran well in each event. The team finished the 400 relay in 47.99 seconds, and the 1600 relay in 3:53.62.
Senior Kayla Caldwell fniished in second place in the pole vault, clearing 13-9 ¼, not far from her Division II-leading mark of 14-2.
Oren shattered her previous record in the 1500 meter run, finishing in 4:40 in California.
At Eastern Michigan University, thrower Amber Mueller had anotehr good day, taking fifth in the discus with a career-best toss of 43.38 meters. She later took seventh in the javelin throw, at 26.42 meters.
Freshman Alex Moynes had her best finish in the high jump in her young career, taking third with a mark of 1.16 meters.
