Relay Teams Dominant in Outdoor Season Opener

March 23, 2013 - The Hillsdale College women's track team made its 2013 outdoor season debut under an early-spring chill in Marion, Indiana Saturday.

The Chargers participated in the aptly named Polar Bear Invitational, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan. Although no team scores were kept, several Chargers stood out in their first meet outdoors.

The team's 400 and 1600 relay teams won their respective races with times of 48.57 seconds and 4:02.28.

In her first collegiate outdoor meet, freshman Danielle gagne took first in the 200 meter dash, running to the finish line in 25.43 seconds. Fellow freshman Corinne Zehner also had a successful outdoor collegiate debut, taking first in the 100 hurdles in 15.74 seconds.

Teammates Erin Benajmin and Elise Byron went 1-2 in the 400 meter dash.

Junior Amber Mueller finished in second place in the javelin throw, while senior Kathy Dirksen was second in the shot put to highlight the team's field event entries.
