Women's Tennis Team Falls to D1 Western Michigan in Season Opener

Box Score

Nothing like a challenge to open a season.

The Hillsdale College women's tennis team, a strong combination of youth, experience and talent, went on the road to battle Western Michigan University, a Division I program out of the Mid-American Conference, at its season opener Saturday night. The Broncos topped the Chargers 7-0 in a non-conference match.

Although a glance at the box score would indicate the score ought to be 8-1, Division I rules award one team point for who wins two out of three doubles matchups between the two teams. This is different from every other match Hillsdale will play the rest of the season, against Division II competition.

While not counting in the final score, the win recorded by Hillsdale's No. 3 doubles team of Halle Hyman and Hannah Cimpeanu will count in their individual career records. They earned a 6-4 win in that flight.
