Last year's Hillsdale College women's tennis team, and two of its individuals, were honored with academic awards from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tuesday afternoon.
The Chargers as a team were named an ITA All-Academic Team thanks to its cumulative grade point average above 3.20.
In addition, Jada Bissett and Katie Bell, two members of that team, were recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes for the 2016-17 year. In order to be eligible for that award, they must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above and have been enrolled in their present schoo9l for at least two semesters.
Bissett recently graduated from Hillsdale after an excellent career, where she made an impact both on and off the tennis court. Bell was one of the GLIAC's top freshmen last season and figures to be one of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference's top returning players in 2017-18.
Starting this year, the women's tennis schedule shifts to the winter/spring to match the rest of the country, with the team's traditional season taking place from February through April.
