The Hillsdale College women's swim team returned to the pool Saturday in Indianapolis for the first time in more than a month with a loss to the University of Indianapolis, 144-79. The Chargers placed at least one swimmer in the top three slots in every event.
The distance swimmers have proved to be a high-scoring group throughout the season, and this meet was no different. The Chargers took first second and third place in the 1000 Freestyle via freshman Kylie Powrie, sophomore Jennifer Wheeler, and sophomore Zoe Hopkins respectively. Powrie then returned with another first place finish in the 500 Freestyle while Wheeler took fourth.
Meanwhile, freshman Emily Shallman continued her great freshman year with a second place finish in the 200 freestyle. Junior Rachael Kurtz also placed top three in both her events with a second place finish in the 50 freestyle and a third place finish in the 100 Freestyle. Sophomore Sarah Rinialdi followed suit with a first place finish in the 200 IM and second place finish in the 100 butterfly.
Other top swims included Freshman Emily Balog with a third place finish in the 200 IM, sophomore Naofa Noll with a third place finish in the 100 butterfly, senior Kate Smith with a third place finish in the 100 backstroke, and junior Cayley Cruickshank with a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke.
The Chargers return home for their last home meet and senior day January 24 against Ashland at 6 p.m.
