The Hillsdale College swimming team fell to Lewis University 117-87 Saturday afternoon at Lewis University in Illinois. The Chargers are now 0-2 in dual meets thus far this season.
The Chargers won three consecutive of the nine total individual events. Junior Rachael Kurtz took the first win for the chargers in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.85. Next, sophomore Sarah Rinaldi out touched the opponent by five seconds in the 200 IM with a season best time of 2:13.83. Jennifer Wheeler then answered the call in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:12.79.
"We again struggled to find our groove," said coach Kurt Kirner. "We have two of our record-holders out of action and it certainly showed. Sarah and Jennifer had good times and big wins for us."
The Chargers took second and third place in the 400 Freestyle Relay and 400 Medley Relay. Rachael Kurtz was the high scorer for the second time this year with a first place finish in the 50 Freestyle and second place finish in the 100 Freestyle. Sarah Rinaldi was close behind with a first place finish in the 200 IM and third place finish in the 200 Backstroke. Other notable swims occurred in the 500 Freestyle with a second place finish by freshman Kylie Powrie and a second place finish by Junior Ali Bauer in the 100 Breaststroke.
The Chargers take on Grand Valley and Calvin College October 25 at 5 pm.
