The Hillsdale College women's basketball program is pleased to introduce Katie Meister as its new assistant coach. Meister joins head coach Matt Fritsche and returning assistant coach Matt Hilkens on the Charger staff.
Meister most recently served a two-year stint as a graduate assistant at Winona State University in Minnesota. The Warriors rang up a record of 52-13 during her two seasons there, advancing to the NCAA regional semifinals.
"We are extremely excited to add Katie to the Hillsdale College women's basketball culture," said Chargers head coach Matt Fritsche. "Her experience playing and coaching in good programs will help everyone associated with our program and I cannot think of a better role model for young women than Katie. She is a perfect fit."
Succcess at the Division II college level is no stranger to Meister, who was an excellent four-year player at Augustana in South Dakota. She started five games as a senior in 2013-14, averaging five points and four rebounds per game in 17 minutes of court time. Meister played center for Augustana and helped the team to an 88-36 record over her four years. A six-foot center, she scored 176 points in her career and pulled down 158 rebounds in 67 games played.
Her Augustana team advanced to the Division II Women's Final Four in 2013.
Meister earned a master of science in educational leadership from Winona State in May 2017. She graduated from Augustana in May 2014, majoring in sports management with a communications minor. She spent the 2014-15 season as a volunteer assistant with the University of Mary in Bismarck, South Dakota, assisting with practices, scouting and recruiting.
