After three weeks off from competition, the Hillsdale College men's cross country team returned to action at one of the largest cross country meets of the fall, the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend.

The team took 14th place in the Gold Division portion of the meet with 373 points. A total of 23 teams competed in the Chagers' division at the meet.

Junior Joshua Mirth was Hillsdale's top performer, finishing 21st overall with a time of 26:08.5 on the challenging course. While Mirth, a 2012 All-American, is used to finishing in the lead among his team, a newcomer to the program also had a solid performance.

Freshman Joseph Newcomb was second on the team and 40th overall, completing the race in 26:35. Another freshman, Luke Daigneault, was the team's next-fastest runner, picking up a time of 27:25.

Hillsdale will compete on its home course of Hayden Park on Friday, Oct. 11 at the Michigan Intercollegiates.
