Sophomore Joseph Humes took first place in his race for the second consecutive week, highlighting the performance by the Hillsdale College men's track team Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers participated at the Mike Lints Alumni Open, hosted by Grand Valley State University, running against a strong mix of Division I and top-level Division II competition.
Humes, who has been successful against GLIAC competition in the past, took first place at GVSU in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:24.62. That time was good for NCAA provisional status. Humes is a former conference freshman of the year when Hillsdale was still a member of the GLIAC.
A pair of Charger veterans also fared well at GVSU Saturday. Lane White took third place in the 400 with a time of 49.21 seconds. Thrower Daniel Capek also picked up a third-place finish in the weight throw, crossing into NCAA provisional territory with a toss of 17.87 meters.
Hillsdale is back home next weekend, hosting the two-day Wide Track Classic at the Margot V. Biermann Center.
