The Charger men's track team spent another weekend in Allendale, competing in the Grand Valley State University Big Meet, and recording NCAA provisional times.
The Chargers started the weekend on the right foot with top performances. In the 400 meter dash, senior Maurice Jones met the provisional mark and a personal record. He took second with his time of 48.02. Junior Joshua Mirth took sixth in the 3000 meter run, meeting a provisional mark with his time of 8:23.60. Senior Matthew Raffin met the mark in the 60 meter hurdles, taking 10th with a time of 8:27. The 4x400 meter relay team (Fr. Ty Etchemendy, Sr. Jared Van Dyke, Raffin, Jones) took seventh and met the mark with a time of 3:15.49.
The team continued their success today. In the pole vault, sophomore Matthew Harris took fourth with a vault of 4.40 meters. Senior Brett Dailey took fifth in the weight throw, tossing 16.85 meters. Sophomore Nick Shuster took fifth in the high jump, reaching 1.95 meters.
In the 60 meter dash, sophomore Todd Frickey took seventh with a time of 7.05. In the same event, junior Damian Matthews ran a 7.17 and junior Zachary Meyer ran a 7.24. Jones took ninth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.29. In the 400 meter dash, Etchemendy took twelfth with a time of 49.89. In the same event, Murphy ran a 50.01 for thirteenth and Van Dyke finished in 50.36.
The Chargers will continue their season at home, hosting the Hillsdale Tune Up Feb. 22.
