February 2, 2013 - The Hillsdale College men's track team doubled its workload over the weekend, taking part in two highly competitive meets in the state of Ohio.
Friday, the Chargers took part in the Findlay Open, and turned in a successful evening on the track, dominating several events.
Leading the way was Luke Hickman, who won the mile run with a time of 4:22.18. He was part of a 1-2-3 finish by the Chargers in the mile, coming ahead of teammates Joshua Mirth and John Bell in the event. All three runners ran the mile in under 4:26.
Hillsdale also took over the top places in the 200 meter dash, which featured four of the top six donning the Charger blue. Maurice Jones led the group with a second-place time of 22.3 seconds. Not far behind him were teammates Alex Mexicotte (third), Michael Shaw (fourth) and Zachary Meyer (sixth). All four runners finished within .7 seconds of one another.
Other top finishers included football player-turned standout sprinter Todd Frickey in the 60 (fourth), Matthew Perkins in the 800 (second) and Raffin and Murphy going 4-5 in the 60 meter hurdles.
A smaller crew made the trip from Findlay to Geneva, Ohio for Saturday's D-II Challenge, which featured programs from as far away as North Carolina.
Fielding a small group of athletes, Hillsdale scored 10 team points. Mexicotte had another strong finish in the 200, taking fourth with a time of 22.23 seconds.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Jones, Van Dyke, Raffin and Murphy finished in fourth place at the meet.
