One of the best teams in the Atlantic Region was no match for the Hillsdale College men's tennis team Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers put together an outstanding effort up and down their lineup in recording a 9-0 win over Edinboro University in Pennsylvania. The win makes Hillsdale 3-2 on the season.
Any 9-0 win in college tennis is impressive, but the Chargers were terrific in recording what is (for now) their best win of the season. Edinboro came into the match ranked fourth in the Atlantic Region, and features a player ranked 13th in all of NCAA Division II.
Milan Mirkovic took care of him.
Mirkovic picked up a win over Vitor Albanese, ranked 13th in the nation, by a score of 6-3, 6-4. Mirkovic was joined by Julien Clouette for the most one-sided doubles win of the day for Hillsdale, 8-3.
The other two doubles matches were tightly contested. Justin Hyman and Charlie Adams were 8-6 winners at No. 1 doubles, while John Ciraci and Dugan Delp stepped up in the clutch with a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles.
Adams also played tough when it mattered most, winning at No. 2 singles 7-6 (8-6), 6-1. After squeaking by in set one, he breezed to another win in set two.
The other four singles players all won in straight sets for Hillsdale. Hyman was a 6-3, 6-0 winner, while Ciraci recorded a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Delp was victorious by a score of 6-3, 6-2 and freshman Gabe Katz brought home a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
