As much as any team on campus, the Charger men's tennis team is on an upward trajectory. In just its second season, Hillsdale defeated four regionally ranked teams and finished ranked 10th in the Midwest Region.
Now, the program moves into the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, and will do so with the addition of two new players for the 2017-18 campaign.
Nico hails from San Jose Obrero High School in Spain, where he was ranked among the top five players in the Balearic Islands as a singles player from 2013-16. He comes to Hillsdale after transferring from Southern Utah University.
Katz comes to Hillsdale from South Burlington, Vermont, where he helped his South Burlington High team to four straight state championships. He was an individual state finalist twice and compiled a career prep record of 83-6 while playing in the top three singles flights throughout his career. He was ranked among the top 30 players in New England and notched wins over two top-15 players in the 18 and under section.
In 2017-18, the Chargers will play a pair of weekend tournaments in September, then get regular season play underway February 9. G-MAC play begins with a road match at Davis & Elkins March 17.
