Baseball Team Selected to Finish 3rd in North Division in Preseason Poll

The Hillsdale College baseball team ushers in a new era next month, when it begins play in the 2018 season, its first as a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Ahead of opening day, the G-MAC office released the results of this year's preseason coach's poll. Conference coaches pegged the Chargers to finish third in the North Division, securing one first-place vote. Malone University was picked to finish first in the North, with nine of a possible 12 first-place votes. Ohio Dominican was second, picking up two first-place votes.

The complete poll can be found in the grid below.

Hillsdale will return one of the most experienced rosters in the G-MAC this year, with the entire starting pitching staff and seven starting position players returning from last year's squad. Senior Will Kruse leads the pitching staff after winning nine games with a school-record 82 strikeouts in 2017. At the plate, the Chargers will field a formidable lineup, led by junior catcher Steven Ring (17 home runs, 63 RBI in 2017) and Colin Boerst (10 home runs, 62 RBI in 2017).
