Sports Complex Detail
Hillsdale College’s Athletic Department is headquartered in the George Roche Health Education and Sports Complex, located at the corner of College and Oak Streets. The building, dedicated in 1988, and its surrounding fields and stadium provide unparalleled facilities for a college of Hillsdale’s size. The Sports Complex houses the offices of all Athletic Department faculty and staff, classrooms, practice and training facilities, and serves as the site of all home games and meets. Whether you’re a varsity athlete playing in a game or a local resident interested in a leisurely game of racquetball, the Sports Complex satisfies the athletic needs and interests of the College and community alike.
Listed below are the various areas and features of different parts of the sports complex:
Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena
JAM Weight Room
John "Jack" McAvoy Natatorium
Named in honor of a 1955 alumnus and longtime athletic director, the McAvoy Natatorium is a combination pool and diving area located on the lower level of the Sports Complex. The pool is six lanes and 25 yards by 25 meters with an attached diving well. The starting blocks are at a depth of 5.5 to 7 feet deep, which allows for fast starts because the refraction of water is minimal. Diving boards of 1 meter and 3 meters are offered, with a plummet line of 14 feet. A whirlpool adjacent to the pool is available as well.
The lower level of the Sports Complex features three racquetball courts. Those interested in using the racquetball courts must reserve one by calling the Sports Complex Reservation Desk at 607-4981.
